Marriage Notes: celebrating love, sharing wisdom

A project dedicated to real conversations about marriage

Marriage is amazing, but let's be honest. We all know the fairytale: fall in love, say “I do,” and live happily ever after. But if you’ve been married, or know someone who is, you know that’s not quite how it works.

Marriage is beautiful, but it’s also messy, complicated, and sometimes downright hard. It’s not just the Instagram-worthy moments. It’s the misunderstandings, the late-night arguments, and the “are we even on the same team?” moments.

Yet, through all of it, marriage can be one of the most incredible things two people can build together.

Why Marriage Notes?

Because real marriages deserve real conversations.

We hear plenty about fairytale weddings, but what happens after? What about the doubts, the tough seasons, and the struggles that make or break a relationship?

That’s what Marriage Notes is here for.

Through honest words and photography, we share stories from couples who have been through the hard stuff; financial stress, loss, broken trust, and everyday pressures. They made it through. Not because it was easy, but because they fought for it.

Why does this matter?

Right now, in the UK, marriage rates have dropped by 58.2% over the years, and for the first time, fewer than half of adults are married. Yet, research shows that married people are nearly twice as happy as those who aren’t.

Marriage isn’t for everyone, but if you’re in it, or thinking about it, you deserve to know the truth, not just the highlights, but the whole picture.

What Marriage Notes values

  • Keeping it real because marriage isn’t perfect, and that’s okay.
  • Encouraging couples who feel like they’re struggling alone.
  • Sharing wisdom with anyone who wants to know what marriage really takes.

The strongest marriages aren’t the ones that never struggle. They’re the ones that refuse to give up.

How does it work?

Sharing your story with Marriage Notes is a simple and meaningful process. It’s not about picture-perfect advice. It’s about real experiences that offer encouragement, perspective, and hope to others.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Discovery call (30 minutes)
A relaxed, no-pressure conversation where we get to know you and your story. We’ll go over what to expect, answer any questions, and help you feel comfortable before we begin.
  2. Recorded interview (60 minutes)
A deeper conversation where you’ll share a story from your marriage journey in your own words. It starts with one key question: "Can you tell me about a moment that deeply shaped your marriage; whether through a challenge, a turning point, or a realisation of your commitment?" There are no right or wrong answers, just your honest story.
  3. Photography session (60 minutes)
A natural and relaxed photoshoot that captures an image representing your journey. This could be a portrait, a moment with your partner, or something symbolic that reflects your story.
  4. Story creation & final approval
your story and photo will be featured on our blog and social media, where it can inspire and support others who are navigating their own relationships. Before anything is published, you’ll have the chance to review everything and give your final sign-off.

Marriage Notes isn’t about telling people what to do. It’s about real stories, real lessons, and real encouragement for those who need to hear, “You are not alone.”

Is Marriage Notes for you?

Marriage Notes is for any married individual who wants to share the real side of marriage. The love, the struggles, and everything in between.

The people who take part are from all walks of life. Some have been married for decades. Others are just a few years in. Some have faced financial struggles, loss, or moments of uncertainty. Others have fought to rebuild trust or rediscover love in the middle of busy, messy lives.

We are husbands, wives, parents, and couples without children. We are people of faith and people with none. Some of us have strong support systems, while others have felt completely alone.

But the one thing we all share? We have lived the realities of marriage; the challenges, the doubts, and the victories. And we believe these stories need to be told.

Most of us take part because we know how powerful it is to hear, "You're not the only one." Some want to encourage others who are struggling. Others want to challenge the idea that marriage is either perfect or doomed to fail.

If this resonates with you, let's talk. You don't have to share our name or be photographed, we'll worth with you to find a way that feels right for you.

Because every marriage has a story. And yours might be exactly what someone else needs to hear.
