You’re almost ready to share your marriage story
Your journey has value. Let’s take the next step together.
You’ve already taken the time to reflect on your marriage journey, and that’s a powerful step. You’re close to being ready to share your story, and with a little more guidance, you’ll have everything you need to take part in Marriage Notes.
If you’re feeling uncertain about the next steps, that’s completely normal. Let’s walk through what’s involved and how we can make the process work for you.
What's holding you back? Let's work through it together.
About me
Who are you?
I'm a photographer based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. I with individuals, couples, families and communities to share stories that celebrate life. I've photographed, weddings, baptisms, funerals and many other events.
A selection of my work is included in the Nationhood: Memory and Hope exhibition that tours the UK throughout 2025.
Why are you doing this project?
As a single, I received a whole lot of bad advice, misinformation, and poor guidance about marriage. Now that I’m married to my beautiful wife, Stacey, I’m learning that real love is much deeper and more complex than I ever imagined.
This project isn’t about perfect relationships; it’s about real people, real experiences, and real lessons that can inspire and help others. Marriage Notes exists to share honest stories that encourage, challenge, and offer wisdom to those on their own journey.
What do you get out of the project?
Marriage Notes is a passion project, one that comes from my own journey of learning what marriage truly is.
I started this project because I believe in the power of storytelling. I get to:
- Learn from real couples who have walked different journeys.
- Challenge the misconceptions that so many people have about marriage.
- Create a platform where wisdom is shared, and people feel encouraged, seen, and inspired.
I don’t do this for profit, it’s about building a community of honest conversations around marriage. Seeing people find encouragement, clarity, and confidence in their relationships is what makes this worth it.
Share your story on your terms
Can I share a Marriage Note anonymously?
Yes! If you’d prefer to share your story anonymously, we can make that happen. Your insights and experiences are valuable, and we respect your privacy.
Here’s how it works:
- Your name does not have to be published – You can choose to share under a pseudonym or remain completely anonymous.
- Your photo is optional – If you’d rather not include an image, that’s completely fine. We can use a symbolic image or leave it out altogether.
- You’ll still have full control – Before anything is published, you’ll have the opportunity to review and approve the final version of your Marriage Note.
Your story can inspire and encourage others, even without your name attached.
I might be able to commit the time, but I need more flexibility
I get it, life is busy. We can discuss scheduling options that fit around your availability. The sessions can be spaced out to ensure you feel at ease throughout the process.
The pre-interview
How do we complete the pre-interview session?
The pre-interview session is a 30-minute conversation designed to help you feel comfortable, understand the process, and explore the story you want to share.
Step-by-step process:
- Scheduling the session
- You’ll receive a link to book a time that works for you.
- Sessions are held virtually or a phone call, whichever you prefer.
- What to expect during the session
- A relaxed, one-on-one conversation where I’ll ask questions to help shape your Marriage Note.
- We’ll discuss your experiences, what stands out to you, and what you feel comfortable sharing.
- This is not recorded, so you can speak freely.
- Answering your questions
- If you have any concerns about the process, we’ll go over them.
- You’ll get full clarity on what happens next.
- Deciding the next step
- If you feel ready to move forward, we’ll schedule your recorded conversation at a time that suits you.
- If you need more time to reflect, that’s completely fine, there’s no pressure to continue.
What if I’m not sure what to talk about?
That’s exactly what this step is for. The pre-interview helps us uncover key moments in your journey, so you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Do I need to prepare anything?
To get the most out of the pre-interview session, it is useful to have thought about your response to the initial interview question. I’ll guide the conversation with thoughtful questions to help you feel comfortable and confident in sharing.
What if I realise I don’t want to continue?
There’s no obligation to move forward after the pre-interview. It’s a chance to explore, and you can decide at any point if it’s the right fit for you.
The interview
How do we complete the interview session?
The interview session is a 60-minute recorded conversation where we explore your marriage journey in depth. This is your opportunity to share your insights, experiences, and lessons in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Step-by-step process:
- Scheduling the session
- Once you’ve completed the pre-interview, we’ll arrange a time that suits you.
- The interview will take place via Zoom or in person (if applicable).
- Preparing for the conversation
- You don’t need to memorise anything or have scripted answers.
- We’ll guide the discussion with open-ended questions to help you share naturally.
- If you’d like, we can send you a few key prompts in advance to help you reflect.
- Recording the interview
- The conversation will be gently structured but informal, allowing you to speak in your own words.
- If you need to pause, take a break, or rephrase something, that’s completely fine.
- The focus is on authenticity and honesty, not perfection.
- Reviewing your story
- After the session, your interview will be transcribed and edited for clarity while keeping your words true to their meaning.
- You’ll have the opportunity to review and approve the final version before it’s published.
- Next steps
- Once approved, your Marriage Note will be prepared for publication.
- If you’re taking part in a photo session, we’ll schedule that next.
I’m nervous about being recorded. What if I say the wrong thing?
This isn’t a live interview, and there’s no pressure to get it perfect. If you need a moment to pause or rephrase something, that’s completely fine. The goal is a natural, honest conversation.
What if I get emotional or struggle to put my thoughts into words?"
Marriage is deeply personal, and it’s okay to feel emotional. I’ll be there to guide the conversation and create a safe space where you can share at your own pace.
Can I review or edit my Marriage Note before it’s published
Yes! Before anything is shared, you’ll have the opportunity to review your story and ensure you’re happy with how it’s presented.

I don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. What if I don’t like my photos?
The session is designed to be relaxed and natural. You don’t need to pose or perform, just be yourself. You’ll also have the chance to review the images and select one you’re happy with.
Can I choose where the photo session takes place?
Yes! We can discuss location options that feel comfortable and meaningful to you. Whether at home, outdoors, or in a studio, we’ll find a setting that fits your story.
Can I keep the photo?
Yes! After your Marriage Notes session, you’ll receive a selection of images to choose from. You’re welcome to keep and use your chosen photo for personal use.
Here’s how it works:
- You’ll receive digital copies of your selected photo.
- The photo will be used as part of your Marriage Note, but you’re also free to use it for personal keepsakes, social media, or other non-commercial purposes.
- If you'd like additional edits or prints, we can discuss options to ensure you have a version that best represents you.
Your story and image are personal, and we want you to feel proud of what you share. Let us know if you have any preferences regarding how your photo is used!
Do I have to share a photo if I’m uncomfortable?
Your comfort is key. While the photo adds a personal touch, if you prefer not to include one, we can explore alternative ways to represent your story visually.
Can I choose to use one of my own photos?
Yes! If you already have a photo that represents your marriage journey, you’re welcome to use it instead of having a new photo taken.
Here’s how it works:
- Photo quality check – Your image should be high-resolution and clear enough for online publication.
- Ownership & permissions – If the photo was taken by a professional photographer, you may need their permission to use it.
- Relevance to your story – The image should align with the tone and message of your Marriage Note, whether it’s a personal portrait, a meaningful moment, or a simple, authentic snapshot.
- Approval process – Once you submit your photo, we’ll review it to ensure it fits well within the Marriage Notes format. If any adjustments are needed, we’ll discuss options with you.

Could my story be shared without my permission?
No. Your story and accompanying content will never be shared without your explicit consent. Before publication, you’ll have the opportunity to review and approve everything. You’re in complete control of how your story is presented. Your privacy and trust are our priority.
